Mother Teresa Essay
Mother Teresa was a Catholic nun who dedicated her life to serving the poor and sick in India. Born in Albania in 1910, she joined the Sisters of Loreto in 1928 and was sent to India to teach at a convent school. However, she was disturbed by the poverty and suffering she saw in the streets of Calcutta, and in 1948, she left the convent to start her own order, the Missionaries of Charity.
Mother Teresa’s mission was to provide basic care for those who had been abandoned, including the sick, dying, and those suffering from leprosy. Her work often involved caring for people who had been left to die on the streets, and she established homes for the dying, where people could receive care and love in their final days.
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”- Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa’s selfless service earned her international recognition, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Despite her fame, she remained humble and committed to her mission of serving the poorest of the poor. She continued to work in the slums of Calcutta until her death in 1997, at the age of 87.
Mother Teresa’s legacy lives on through the Missionaries of Charity, which now has over 4,500 sisters in more than 130 countries. Her life and work serve as an inspiration to many, and her dedication to the poor and sick has left a lasting impact on the world.
“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”- Mother Teresa
